Welcome to Foxhollow Animal Sanctuary
Foxhollow Animal Sanctuary was set up by Tony and Diane Burge at their plant nursery in Hambrook, Chichester to cope with the increasing number of pets that owners were no longer able to look after.
Animals can need rehoming for a variety of reasons, including pet allergies, divorce, downsizing of homes, complaining neighbours, hospitalisation, and many more. With these situations arising daily, it means that numerous rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, chickens, ducks, goats and horses need rehoming. Most of these have come from good homes where they have been loved – very few have been abused or neglected. We have also cared for injured and orphaned wild animals, including foxes, badgers, owls and deer.
Nugget was a much-loved riding horse who was, sadly, losing his sight. He was rescued by Foxhollow Animal Sanctuary in 2003, aged 15.
The vet confirmed that nothing further could be done to halt the decline in his eyesight, and as such he was no longer safe to be taken out on the roads, but very much enjoyed doing basic dressage in the arena. He also enjoyed running free with the other horses in the paddocks.
Sadly, after several years he became totally blind and developed problems with balance, and had to be put down.
In the three years he spent at Foxhollow, he was able to get the exercise he truly loved, and was cared for and well looked-after. Although health problems ailed him, he was able to spend the last few years of his life being happy.
